Recycling tips

Do you put your recycling in a garbage bag?? If you do can you please use clear bags, it has been brought to my attention that people are pulling off the black and orange bags, ripping them open looking for beer cans and leaving the recycling on the ground. This is causing a big mess and the wind has been blowing recycling all over. SO PLEASE USE CLEAR BAGS FOR YOUR RECYCLING!!!! THANK YOU

The Pas & Area Recycling Centre Weekly Trailer/Lot Report

We at the Recycle Centre hope you all had a Very Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year
I haven’t had a report for awhile as we have been busy here at the Recycling Centre
First I would like to Thank the Gentleman who came to the Recycling Centre and volunteered his time to help clean up at the trailers in town.
You have to bear with us, there are 6 of us here and 4 are down with the flu, even though they still came in to work.
Because of all the household and other garbage we are getting in and around the trailers, we are having a hard time to get empty totes to put on the trailers, so please do not leave your garbage for us to deal with. We also have to pay to have the town come pick it up and we are a non-profit organization that relies on funding to operate, so garbage is not in our budget.
Please note: we cannot recycle plastic grocery bags, Styrofoam packing/insulation, plastic packaging material, food waste, pampers, lawn cuttings or leaves, shoes or other clothing, tarps, house wrap, wood, old staircases, rugs, ceiling tiles, tissue paper, food napkins, oil rags, oil containers, insulin or any other kind of hypodermic needle these can be taken to The Pas Health Complex or you can get a pail designed for needles, you can talk to your Doctor regarding the pails. When these needles are placed in the recycling you are putting people’s lives in danger. When you put your fish offal or household waste in the recycling trailers the flies get in, so by the time it gets to the recycling centre it has maggots in it, this is not good for the people working at the centre. Please refrain from putting any household waste and/or fish offal on the trailers.
The back section of trailers with totes and the trailers that do not have totes are for corrugated cardboard only; please do not put any other recycling in with the corrugated cardboard.
We accept batteries, cell phones, computers and all computer components, televisions, land phones, stereos etc. These items can be dropped off at the Recycling Centre.

Glass
Did you know…
• It takes one million years for a glass bottle to break down in a landfill.
• Recycled container glass is used to create new bottles and jars, fiberglass, and is used as
aggregate material in roads and sidewalks.
• If laid end to end, all the glass bottles collected in recycling programs in Canada would circle the equator four times.
